TEAM NJ LIONS fc:
NJ LIONS fc entered a co-ed team in the recreational division of the Overnight Tournament held at Giants Stadium on July 14th and 15th. The team and it's guests attended the NY Red Bulls vs. NE Revolution game totaling 24 ticket holders. The Overnight Tournament began immediately after the game at 10pm til 7:00am the next morning.
Team NJ LIONS fc defeated it's competition with a record of 6-0-0!!!
GAME SCHEDULE:
First Round Games: 10:30pm, 12:30am, 2:30am
Quarterfinals, Semifinals, Finals: Began at 5:15am back-to-back!
RESULTS:
Game 1: 10:30pm - We posted a win of 3-0. Scoring for NJ LIONS fc was: Simon Yanez, Lona Ozrek and a controversial goal by Matt Gibson or was it Tadhg O Fatharta? (Rock, Paper, Scissors says Matty).
Game 2: 12:30pm - Defeated our opponents by a score of 1-0, Adrian Ruiz netted one for NJ LIONS fc. Erik Schulte made some key saves in goal giving us the win.
Game 3: 2:30am (Hoboken bars are at last call and we're playing soccer?) - We posted another win of 3-0. Scoring for NJ LIONS fc was Matt Gibson who posted two goals and Adrian Ruiz who netted one. This win secured our position in the Quarterfinals. We were the ONLY co-ed team to advance this far! Record 3-0-0. GF = 7, GA =0.
Quarterfinals: 5:15am (that's right, 5:15am INSANE) -- Final score 3-2. Lona Ozrek led the team with two goals to tie it up at the end of regulation play. Forcing NJ LIONS fc and our opponents into Golden Goal - OT. Adrian Ruiz led the team to the win with a rocket shot that the keeper could not stop. (Keeper was overheard saying: They need to stop shooting so hard and the referee was overheard telling Adrian to "take it easy" -- classic !!) Bottomline: Another win! Record 4-0-0. GF = 10, GA =2.
Semifinals: 5:45am (CRAZY) -- With less than a five minute break and the sun starting to rise we advanced to Semifinals, against yet another all male team. Lona Ozrek posted two goals and Matt Gibson netted another. Final score 3-1. We advanced to finals. 24 teams down to just two. Record 5-0-0. GF = 13, GA = 3.
FINALS: 6:15am (Daylight) -- Yet another all men's team. It was a physical game with two injuries and let's not forget Kelly losing her temper and nearly getting the 3-minute yellow card penalty....
But we pulled through: Lona Ozrek scored two goals, Tadhg O Fatharta and Claudio Yanez each netted one --giving us 4 goals. Erik Schulte had his fourth shut out of the day winning the tourney with a score of 4-0!!!
FINAL RECORD: 6-0-0. GF = 17, GA = 3!!
7:00am -- Dayna and Kelly accepted the Cup for the 1st place win!
