Women's Club Team

2009 Team News:  This has been another exciting season for the Women's Club team. 

- 2009 & 2008 NJ State Cup Champions !

The 2009 New Jersey State Cup Champions!! - NJ LIONS fc Women

The Women's Club advanced to the 2009 State Cup Finals held on June 12, 2009 at 8pm at the Manalapan Recreation Center in Manalapan,  NJ.  The women took on and defeated Pennisula Aztecs with a score of 2-1.  Scoring for NJ LIONS fc was Val Barnhart and Sandra Ackerman.

2008 Team News:  This has been a very exciting season for the Women's Club team.  Here are just some of the team's accomplishments:

- 2007/2008 GSSL Undefeated Division Champions !

- State Cup Record of 3-0,  League Cup Record of 1-1-1, Overall season record of 16-1-1 !

The 2008 New Jersey State Cup Champions!! - NJ LIONS fc Women

The Women's Club advanced to the 2008 State Cup Finals held on June 3, 2008 at 8pm at the Manalapan Recreation Center in Manalapan,  NJ.  The women took on the returning champs Kappa Real Wycoff defeating them with a score of 3-2 in regulation time.


Team Info:

NJ LIONS fc: Women's Club Team is the area's only women's club soccer team.  The GSSL currently has 10 divisions, 8 for men and 2 for women consisting of over 60 men's teams and over 20 women's teams throughout New Jersey. 

 

2007Fall /2008 Spring Season Recap:  The team went unfeated in the B Division of the Garden State Soccer League (GSSL) with an impressive record of 12-0 claiming first place in their group.  They ended League Cup with a record of 1-1-1. 

Most impressive though, the women took the title of 2008 State Cup Champions ended the cup with a record of 3-0.  The women defeated the returning champs with a score of 3-2.  This is the first State Cup win for the NJ LIONS fc Club.

The women ended their season with an overall record of 16-1-1.  The Lions will return to the GSSL "A" Division in the upcoming 2008/2009 Season.

 

2006 Fall/2007 Spring Season Recap:  (under the name "Hoboken WSC") We faced new teams with a competitive game schedule during the 2006/2007 season in the premier "A" division of the GSSL.  We ended the season with a record of 4-1-9. 

The team also advanced to the Semi-Finals in the League Cup Tournament in June 2007 and ended the Cup with a record of 3-1-1 defeated only by the Cup champions.  The team's overall record was 7-2-10.

Women's Team Manager:  Kelly McGuirl 

Kelly has been playing in and managing the Women's Club team since it's inception in 2004.  Kelly teamed up with Head Coach Ray Bueno to form NJ LIONS fc to unite a women's and men's team under one club.  With intentions of taking the Women's Club to the next level of play, Kelly enlisted the help of Ray as Head Coach.  Kelly is currently taking a season off to recoup.

 

With over 20 years of soccer experience, including playing, organizing and coaching Kelly will continue to manage the Women's Club team and will assume the role of Director of Soccer Operations for the Club. 

 

Women's Head Coach:  Raymon Bueno

With over 25 years of soccer experience under his belt, Ray Bueno co-founded NJ LIONS fc as an opportunity to put his years of playing, coaching and submerging himself into the world of soccer together under one club.  With over 17 years of coaching experience at area programs such as Rutgers-Newark University - Men's Program, Kappa Real Wyckoff's - Women's Team, Montclair State University - Men's Program, Hoboken Youth Travel Program - U15 boys and more -- Ray will be head coaching both the women's and men's NJ LIONS fc club programs. 

 

Along with coaching Ray played soccer on multiple men's and co-ed teams which include the Hoboken Adult Soccer League, Kappa Real Wyckoff Champions Reserve team (part of the NJSL Premier West Division) and the National Over 30 team which competes in National Cups.  Ray also played 4 years at Montclair State University.  Ray currently plays with the Men's O30 team and the Hoboken Adult Soccer League.

The women's club team of NJ LIONS fc is formally known as Hoboken WSC.
